Rustoleum Paint Question.

I use Rustoleum paint on almost everything job shop related. Well I painted something gloss red about 2 days ago and its still not hard yet.....Why? Was prepped like always(directions) and has been drying in the heat, but you can still put your "nail" into it. Any suggestions/answers will be helpful, it was juat a rattle can and I have never had the issue before. ThanksYou have to learn the rules of the game. Reply:Was it raining I did same thing the other day and I can peel paint off all metal was sanded and primed
Reply:did you paint over epoxy primer or other fresh coating? Solvents from uncured coatings get trapped under the new coat and can cause similar issues, especially if the base used an aggressive reducer (acetone, xylene, mek etc) I find that Tremclad (made by rustoleum) when brush painted (or spray painted, thinned with varsol or VM&P Naptha) dries excruciatingly slowly and can be tacky for like 10 hours and then just kick at 10-1/2 hours. Reply:If you want fast drying use Rustoleum Lacquer in the spray cans. It is dry to the touch in about 15 minutes or so and fully dry in about 30 minutes. It does a real nice job also.

Reply:See if you can find a dealer local to you that carries Coronado industrial enamel.  That is what I have gone to and it is incredible paint.  It has to be thinned with Xylene, but it dries hard in ten minutes, and even has an additional hardener that can be used to improve gloss, and make it harder, but I have never had the need to use it.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I have run into this with alkyd enamels on 2 occasions. Both were from gallon cans that I was spraying. Didn't ever get hard so stripped it and re sprayed thinking I was pushing it and didn't let it flash enough between coats. It ended up being the gallon of paint. This wasn't rustoleum but same general idea. I am not sure if they get a batch of oils or solvents that just won't flash out or what. I haven't had the issue with rattle can though but that is same stuff. I generally use automotive urethanes on everything and have sprayed thousands of gallons on equipment, weldments, and custom cars. Never had an issue and there are some cheap companies out there such as Kirker that work well. Everytime I spray alkyd enamel even out of rattle cans I end up regretting it later cause it just isn't half as tough plus there are really no good primers that are 1 part.
