I am wondering what differences there are between 5P+ and plain old 5P rod. The literature from Lincoln doesn't do a good job explaining it.

Reply:i think the 5P+ has a small amout on iron powder in it.only thing worse than an ugly woman is an ugly weld
Reply:5P is red, 5P+ is greyDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I personally prefer 6011. 6010 would be my next choice, then 6010+. Most of my welding career it was 6010 root, hot pass and fill, then 7018 cap. I even remember when it was required every pass uphill. NO downhill! And yes I'm aware 6011 is an A/C rod while 6010 is D/C. 6011 is actually A/C-D/C. I no longer weld new pipe as I'm retired and old oilfield pipe responds very well to 6011.
Reply:The 5P+ can handle more of a gap, if you can't get it going down with the + then go up. A bloody good rod.I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home. |
