riveted jon boat

i have a 10 ft waco  riveted jon that needs some repair. was gonna use 5356 but got to thinking i heard somewhere riveted were made from different type sheet then all welded. i know most welded are either 5052 or 5086 anyone have an idea riveted are from wondering if i should go 4043 or 5356 ???350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:What type of repair are you tackling?  I am not sure what series of aluminum those riveted boats are general made of, but welding them have always been sketchy.  Of the succesful repairs I have done on riveted boats I have the best luck with 4043.  Although I only attempt welding when there are tears or punctures.  I try to use rivets as much as possible, with appropriate seam sealer.Jay DavisAWS-CWIC-60 Specialty Welding ContractorLoving husband, and father of two boys (

Reply:well the cracks were longer then i thought. it took a bit but i got it fixed with a mix of pulse mig and tig  was a bit dirty and some was so thin it vaporized chased a couple holes and got her fixed no leaks. took it out on a lil river put it through the paces and it was fine 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
