Hi folks, I finally got a mig machine. Older 180 SD thats like new. My question is for someone that has never used a tig machine before, what is the best thing to learn on, I have a bottle of argon, and a bottle of 75/25, so gas wise I am good to go. Is steel easier, or should I start with some sheet aluminum. I can stick, mig ,and gas weld, so this in my new venture of learning, and ideas would be appreciated to start me in right direction, thanks Ed.
Reply:Congrats on the 180 SD 'TIG' machine.First of all, keep the C-25 (75/25) away from the 180. 100% argon ONLY for TIG or you'll contaminate the tungsten and weld.As for what to start on, if you curently O/A weld I'd suggest starting with steel as it will be a more natural transition and move on from there. Make sure you read up on which tungstens to use, proper preparation, polarity (or AC) etc. to use and save yourself alot of headaches and questions. And don't hesitate to search the threads as there's a ton of information to be had.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
