6 g position, 3/32/ land, 3/32 gap, heat 68 amps, how do i avoid flush root, or slight concavity, come off tact, 1/2 the diameter of rod go out of puddle, than go back to puddle, hold 2 or 3 seconds, repeat process.
Reply:how do i avoid flush root, concavity in root, 3/32 gap / 3/32 land, heat, 68 to 70 amps, come off tack, hold 3 seconds, go out 1/2 diameter of rod, go back to puddle repeat process, how do i get that nice convex root, nice height (root), thank you
Reply:your heats a tad low, I know this is completly a personal thing for the most part but try going up to about 73-75, and push in a bit. You want to try and get the metal to lay into the root. I have found using 3 tacks and 12, 4,7 works best on the 6g. Less of a struggle getting full pen on the bottom of the root. Also are you grinding your starts and stops to a feather edge? If not you could be having issues with the 3 second pause, Thats putting alot of heat into an area for a long period of time in the time frame of the weld. I would try to feather edge the stop start about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch behind the edge of the tack, start your weld and it will just burn into your tack or stop. You never want to stop the motion, with 6010 you can see every little motion.Last edited by violatedppl; 05-29-2012 at 01:06 PM.
Reply:I use a 5/64-inch land, and a 5/64-inch drill bit to set the gap. Tacks at 3, 6, 9, and 12. Feather each end of the tack, and grind them very thin. I run about 60-amps + or -, with 9.5 on the arc force.
