this is a light stand for my brother who is a photographer.  he shoots a lot of high school sports (football, soccer...etc) which all have stadium lighting.  He needed a light source to come from the bottom, so instead of spend $30 to get a mini light stand thats made of flimsy aluminum, we decided to make one.  the first one here only stands about 10 inches tall, and can swivel.this is also my first time tapping a hole (for the pinch bolt) Attached Images
Reply:this second one is just a little adapter to be used with a guitar stand (i didn't make the black guitar stand).  It's adjustable from about 1.5' to about waist high. Attached Images
Reply:Are you going to paint the little stand or clear coat it? I looks great natural.
Reply:Hi Oxy,  very clean and looks good.  You might look at mike stands and the various extention arms that you can get for those to hold multiple mikes..  Your ends to mount the lights might be adaptable there too.   enjoyLincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

Reply:Many years ago, I did some free lance photography and your stand would have been very useful.  Nice job!(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Looks great, shame he shoots with Nikon equipment (Canon snob here )
Reply:thanks guy.the smaller stand will probably not be painted... this is a prototype he'll let me know what changes he wanted to make.  if there's no change then the rust (there will be some surface rust) will be stripped of and some kind of semi glass black paint will be sprayed on.I have several boom microphone stands, they might be ok for studio work as carrying around a bunch of counter weights on a live shoot won't really work too well.my dad bought a nikon camera in the 70's and that pretty much sealed the fate for all of us.  he has several lenses that are still great and we can still use it with today's DSLRs.  Not sure how long canon has been around and if their stuff is backwards compatible, but once nikon comes out with something great, then canon will come back swinging, then nikon will beat their ***... its an endless, vicious cycle.  after more then $15k investment in Nikon lenses and bodies.  i doubt we'll change
Reply:Most of the Canon stuff is backwards compatible as long as you match the sensor size.  The cropped lenses work only on cropped sensor bodies, but the full frame lenses will work on all of them.  Nothing new there!I do like that small stand though.  I may rig one up to use trackside, and for bottom lighting in some of the portrait stuff I do!
