I currently have a weld craft WP 17 air cooled torach. I'd like to upgrade to a water cooled torch. This is what I'm looking athttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=220374569535This is for a hobby, not production use.My questions:The valve on the torch is for coolant flow right? Will the collets, end caps etc from my wp17 work with this torch? The listing states up to 1/8" tungsten, us that for the included collet only, or is that the maximum size for the torch? Thanks for any assistanceRyan"I heard that!!"
Reply:Well I see the torch but where is the cooling unit? Unless your cooling unit is already internal on your unit you will need a cooling unit to go with that torch.http://www.tectorch.com/detail/PDF/W...er%20Notes.pdfhttp://www.millerwelds.com/about/new...ticles104.htmlLast edited by specter; 03-15-2009 at 02:44 PM.Reason: add linkCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:Hey Ryan whats going on? No...sorry the Cups/Collets/ Everything is smaller on a watercooled torch..You will need all new stuff..The valve?on the back?I have no idea what that is for.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:LOL, Zap. You know exactly what that valve is for. G1K, that's the sheilding gas valve, which you only need if your machine doesn't have a gas valve inside inside it.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Well it sounds like a combined answer You know you need an cooler and said you will build one.You now know you need the Cups/Collets. You need to see if you already have that valve on your unit or if you need it on the torch. And lastly if you decide not to do the 1st three things above the only way you'll get a water cooled unit is get a Weldcraft WP-20 watercooled torch is go buy oneEnd of story.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:The torch you linked to (WP20FV)... WP20 is size/style (look here), the 'F' means it has a 'flex neck' and the 'V' means it has a manual gas valve (as already described).Consumables... same parts on used a wp9 (aircooled) and wp20 (watercooled). The bits you have for your wp17 also fit a wp18 (large watercooled) and wp26 (even larger aircooled)

Reply:Get a wp-18 style torch, its watercooled and the parts interchange with the 17.Dont believe me? Check the part numbers.http://www.weldcraft.com/pdfs/WP17ENG.pdfhttp://www.weldcraft.com/pdfs/WP18ENG.pdfIve used an 18 and 20 style torch, the 18 is definitely bigger but still very easy to work with and change pieces out. Plus if it goes down your can swap right back to your 17. And if you can, spring for the gas lens kit while your at it.Last edited by sn0border88; 03-18-2009 at 01:08 AM.Have we all gone mad? |
