im trying to get a job at a place that runs flux core with straight CO2. is it the same as MIG but with slag? any tips would be nice.
Reply:Run it like self shielded fluxcore, DCEN and drag it, no whipping out and back into the puddle.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:The fluxcore wire will have the ability to run at much higher heat input in positions other than flat. The hand/eye coordination is the same but more is happening. In many wires the flux is very efficent at supporting the molten metal. A vertical stringer or single pass fillet weld can be made by nearly anyone if t he machine is set properly and they have the cordination to go from the bottom to the top of a joint with consistent travel speed. Its a low skill process as far as hand eye coordination goes but can be sensitive to operating parameters. So it does take a person with a good understanding of the process to make it work in differing conditions.Have a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/

Reply:how about fumes?
Reply:There is usually a bit more smoke than if you were just using regular MIG. Hopefully the place you will be interviewing will have plenty of ventilation. Keep your head out of the smoke - that helps too.
Reply:yeah i know about keeping my head out of the fumes its not fun just wondering if it was as bad with dual shield
Reply:gas shielded isn't as bad (smokewise) as self shielded, but there are fumes.
Reply:thanks a lot.anybody know any good sites with info on wire speed/voltage settings or other related info for dual shield?Last edited by ArcBurn007; 03-22-2009 at 01:07 PM.
Reply:Go to the manufacturer's website of the brand of wire you intend to use. Lincoln usually has all that info listed for all the various different wires they sell.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Do you know what sized wire you will be running?Make sure you have adequate protection, if you have never run 1/16 dual shield before,Its a wee bit hotter Yup |
