I went to a welding show last nice. there was a guy there talkin bout propalene. he said that it cost bout half, but when I talked to the guy at my lws he said it was more. I was just wonderin if anyone use propalene. thanks btw in my opion it makes a better cut thanks again
Reply:I use it, a 30 pounder lasts as long as at least 3-4 acetylene.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:It is supposed to have more energy than propane, and cost less than acetylene. so- it is cooler than acetylene, hotter than propane, more expensive and harder to get than propane, but cheaper and safer than acetylene.
Reply:thanks the guy said the comete opposite. maybe he just wanted to sell the more expensive stuff
Reply:His price probly depends more on what his business is set up to sell the most of.   If acetylene is the in-demand gas and propylene is hardly ever requested, that could cause the propylene price to be higher than say somewhere else where they may sell alot of it.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:If you are going to change to an alternate from acetylene there it really no great advantage to going half way.  Try straight propane also before you decide on these fancy fuel gases.  I prefer to use propane for cutting when given a choice.
Reply:Propane is good for scrapping but I have never seen anyone make a perfect cut with propane.  We all  have with acetylene.  Propylene I have never heard of it but if it cuts good I'd like to try it.DAG NABIT, I left my tape on the saw.Wild Fire Welding
Reply:Use regular propane, the stuff they sell everywhere. I have used it for 30 years ,cleaner hotter just plain better than acetylene, plus cheaper. Today I used the cutting torch to do some silversoldering on brass outriggers, worked perfect.     Jim the old welder
Reply:Sorry, Gremlin to disagree...But while propane is cleaner....it is not hotter!  Propane cannot weld steel because it won't heat the steel to the melting point like acetylene.  That's why it is o/a weding and not o/p welding.Propane takes more preheat and more oxygen to do the same job...Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:ever try MAPP gas for cutting? Its almost as hot as acet and it produces better cuts than propaneLast edited by ArcBurn007; 03-15-2009 at 11:07 AM.
Reply:does any one have pics of a propane cut (right after) I was thinkin that rout because I have a pump on my tank at home to refill those little bbq cylinders.thanks
Reply:i have been using chemtane for a while now.......i should have switched over years ago.
Reply:how is propane compared to propalene? Thanks
Reply:are there any other gasses similar to propalene that is any good to use? Thanks
Reply:I currently use propane with a Smith torch and a propylene tip. Smith because it's my favorite torch, propylene tip because it's two piece, smith propane tip is one piece which is more prone to damage from dropping etc. Preheat holes being numerous and close together are key to precision cutting with cooler fuel gasses.  Personally I like propane because it's cheap and I like the way it cuts, preheat is definitly slower but I feel the cut is actually better than acetylene. With a nice clean tip I can make cuts that look like a hacksaw!  The only time I miss acetylene is when working inside things (vehicles etc) where the possibility for fire is great and increased time for preheat is a bad thing.  Don't listen to the other lies about different pressures and different regulators required blah blah... same regulator, same pressure, same thread as acetylene.
