I have a frost-proof spigot that is in need of repair. The threads on the valve rod are almost stripped and keep pulling out of the part that is in the ground.Winter is a coming and need to get this fixed so I can put the dirt back in the hole that I dug to get to the valve. What is the best way to weld threads for tapping, weld with the threads, like go around with the threads or weld up and down across the threads? The one end is alright but the other end that I have cleaned off is the end in need of repair. There is not a whole lot to these things to go wrong.I just screwed a bolt into the valve just to keep up with it.That's it by the handle. Reply:Assuming you have access to a lathe because you are gonna need it..I would turn/cut off the old end and re thread the pipe..All you are going to be missing is 1/2" and I really don't think that would matter...What are the threads?Taper pipe?Straight pipe?...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thanks zap, never thought of just cutting off and rethreading,I reckon it would still work and not leak as long as I got it screwed back down far enough to make up for what I cut off which would only be a 1/2". Reply:I just went ahead and welded it,ground it down on a bench grinder, tapped it 7/16"-14 thread,so I got some good sharp threads and ready to put back together and go back in the ground and get covered back up tomorrow Attached ImagesMaxus Pro-125 MigChicago Electric 90 amp DC flux-coreLincoln Electric AC 225 tombstoneO/A torchM/O mini-torch10 acres of flatland15 acres of holler |
