I wanted to know if the Victor SR600 oxy reg is good for an acetylene/oxy setup.Also... can you mix and match the acetylene and oxy regulators?  I know the fuel regs have reversed threads and that the fuel reg is defenitely different from an oxy reg..... BUT do both regs have to be of the same or matching sets?  I am just learning about oxyfuel..... and it seems to me that as long as the regulators are adjusted properly..... that mixing different series regulators would be ok?  For instance could you use a Victor SR350 on your oxy and say a Victor SR450 on the fuel? The Victor SR600 oxy reg does not look like from the Victor website to be used for an oxy/acetylene welding setup?  But for $95 brand new..... I was hoping I could use it on my setup. Thanks for any help on this.Last edited by cybordolphin; 06-18-2012 at 12:43 AM.Reason: errors
Reply:You can use different models or even different manufacturers for o/a regulators.Someone else will have to fill you in on the features of the Victor line of regulators, I am for the most part an Oxweld and Purox man myself."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:No problem mixing the SR350 and SR450.  The SR600 is intended for high-pressure use.  Although it will regulate down low, the working range you need will be only a tiny portion of the range.  Plus, you have an opportunity to put high-pressure Oxy into your hose if you misadjust.  I think those come in 350 and 600 PSI versions.Edit:  On the SR600, look at the dash number.  Some are lower pressure.  If you can find an SR600-40, then that is 0-40 PSI.Last edited by Oldendum; 06-19-2012 at 08:23 AM.
Reply:Thanks for the replies. So it sounds like although way overkill.... the reg would work for me.  Albeit needing to be careful to not overadjust. Here are the specs for the regulator.  The delivery range is 5-550.  The outlet pressure does look to be 550.  What is the normal working pressure of most hoses?  Would I need to upgrade likely to a HP hose?  I was going to purchase new hoses anyway. It also looks like I will need to replace the outlet to a 9/16".Do you think I should back out at $95 for this?SR 600 Oxygen 0781-1610 SR 600-550-540 5-550 Heavy DutySingle stage regulator designedfor pressure testing and idealwhere 350 or 550 PSIG(maximum) deliverypressures are needed, suchas dead-end testingDESIGN/CONSTRUCTION• Forged brass body &housing cap• 2.5" (63.5 mm) gauges – brass(6000 lb. high pressure, 600 lb.and 1000 lb. low pressure)• Cartridge type seat assembly with PCTFE seat• Diaphragm -–stainless steel• External self-reseating relief valve• CGA 540, 580, 346 have a maximum inlet pressure of 3000 PSIGDimensions7.5" W x 6" H x 5" D(190.5 mm x 152.4 mm x 127.0 mm)Weight5 lb. 7 oz. Reply:Look at a picture of the gauge on a 0-550 PSI unit.  Your entire operating range will cover a few degrees on the gauge face, maybe 1/8" at max.  See if you can find +/- specs on what it will hold at a particular setting. I don't know where you are, but around here the regular Victor gauges aren't that expensive, even used 450's.  I have a pair that appear in nice shape, with the hoods,  and I'd be lucky to get around $100. - $150. for the pair.Last edited by Oldendum; 06-19-2012 at 03:34 PM."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Ok... thanks.  It sounds like I would be better off making a pass on this one.... and look for a nice set of 450's.  That or have the old 200's rebuilt (like $45 each). Thanks for the input... appreciated!
Reply:If a rebuild is only about 45 bucks each, I'd just get them rebuilt. That's pleasingly cheap.
