Does anyone out there have any experience with nederman filter box fume and dust extractors? I recently had one giving to me by my buildings owner but it needs a new filter. His son used it as paint fume extractor while painting one day not knowing any better and clogged the filter up! I priced a new filter it will cost all but 1500 bucks. I really can use the fume and dust extraction as my mid size shop has none and we are generating alot of grinding and welding dust. Does anyone have an idea on how to clean the paint gunk out of the filter. I doubt there is a good way but didnt know if anybody had tried soaking one in some kind of thinner or what not. The filter is about 24 inches in diameter and about 24 inches long. It is huge. Thankswww.burdettenetworks.com
Reply:I'm not familiar with that filter, but the idea of cleaning it with a solvent so you can re-use it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Even if you managed to get it clean and then put it to use there would likely be significant amounts of the solvent vapors coming out of it for a very long time. Around welding sparks and heat this does not seem like a good idea. Even if the solvent was non-flammable, it may still not be very healthy to breath it. I would trash the filter and buy a new one, even if it was expensive.
