Has anyone used a wood splitter as metal press? Paul
Reply:I haven't done it, but I wouldn't think it would work all that well... I'd say you'd have far better control with a Bottle jack and a simple but sturdy homemade housing.Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:I can't say that I've used my splitter yet, but I have used various heavy equipment cylinders, in the field, to fix/smash things. Road milling machines are ideal. Parallel flat surfaces and fancy schmancy grade controls for precise movement of cylinders. You could probably buy one hell of a press for half a million bucks though. Seriously, it depends on what you are doing. Maybe at idle it will move slow enough to be controllable... maybe not.
