Hey thereI need to do my welding outside - just seeing if hanging up a fireblanket is an OK idea to protect other people from the bright light and won't reflect the UV light back to me either Also could be useful when I do a bit of occasional welding indoors as a welding mat Any problems/concerns with this idea? PS. I think the PVC curtains would burn as the curtain needs to be quite close to the sparks Thanks
Reply:We use blankets most of the time as screens. Welding screens can be bought in a variety of colors but nearly all are translucent so the welder can be seen for his own protection. It all depends on if you want people to know you are there.
Reply:FWIW, I bought a couple of very cheap "welding blankets" from Harbor Fright to use as screens (fabricated frames for them). Be aware that hitting them with grinding sparks at close range will burn a hole through them . . . .
Reply:Thanks - just bought some large translucent welding screens to get me going - I can put them a bit further away from the welding area as they are very largeThe fireblankets were bright white which means they'd probably reflect a lot of the arc light
Reply:using fire blanket for a mat is not a good idea. The slag would sit on it and burn right through.
