I've been thinking about converting my 99 Silverado to a dump bed. I've looked at the kits from Northern and such but dont want to spend that kind of money. I do want to keep the original bed on the truck and I'd like to keep the factory appearance. Have any of you guys done this before? If so I'd like to see pictures of how you did it. ThanksSafety 3rdGump
Reply:I have done a couple of medium duty dumps... 1 with a flatbed and one used a 5 ton military bed... there are several kits and plans available on the net. Both the ones I did ran off pto though.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I have built a few tip trailers, similar but not quite the same as you are looking at. Anything in particular you want to know? Attached Images
Reply:unless you already have a power unit, and a appropriaye cylinder, and abunch of appropriate and free steel you will hit the $1300 Northern wants in parts and steel alone.plus it's American.but this is America and whio can blame you for wanting to do it yourself? to this end the manufacturers videos of how to set up their system shoudl be very informative. here is one. there is a whole series.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpLIx2HDitI&list=PL513AFB78E7C2E3B9&index= 3&feature=plpp_video[/ame]
Reply:One issue to keep in mind, standard pickups have a bent frame. Cab and chassis trucks have a straight frame. Straight frame trucks are easier to fit with a flat bed or dump body compared to bent frame trucks..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:keeping stock box will be tough. will require sub frame for box to sit on so it doesnt fold. To get it under the box with out jacking it way up would be tough. I would build a dump bed the sheet metal in a pick up box wouldnt take much abuse.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:No need to re-invent the wheel...http://stealthdumptrucks.com/http://www.youtube.com/user/StealthDumpTrucksI have seen some of the "junk" kits out of the States (Forced to install a Pierce kit once) and they weren't worth 2 licks on a dead dogs A$$... If it were me, I would spend the money to get a well engineered kit AND a little piece of mind.To each their own.Last edited by Black Wolf; 07-03-2012 at 10:49 PM.Later,Jason
Reply:I did one on my 1978 F350 back in 1980 or so, very similar to the install with the video above,it is a 12 foot long bed and has worked well for 30+ years, and has lifted 9600 pounds on the bed with no over hang, |
