some of you might remember, i was trying to teach myself oxy/acet welding.  I built a welding table, a front gate, and a utility cart all gas welded.  Well, that was until I bought a Miller Syncrowave 180.  it wasn't as difficult as i expected, I suspect it's the experimentation with gas welding that helped.  that was enough to get me started,  But having a mentor showing me the ropes in what the puddle was suppose to look like, tips/tricks on fillet, metalselection DEFINITELY helped a lot (thanks a bunch Paul).anyway, i've moved on to tig welding because torch pops scares the heck outta me!  Oh, i'm keeping the gas torchesand bottles (almost empty) around, just in case.  but tig welding is such a gentleman's process... so civilized!  so civilized compared to my moronic attempt at gas welding anyway.following is a couple of stainless steel, i dont know what gauge.  they're just tacked together and fusion welded.  no filler rod (except for the tacks).machine setting as follows:55amps (was welding 1/16 square tubing, and i didn't bother to change it, just "feathered" the pedal)i guess thats about it, syncro 180's pre/post flow aren't adjustable (1/2 second pre, and 18 seconds of post)100% argon set at 20 cf/hri'd take any advice and constructive criticismsLast edited by oxy moron; 05-17-2009 at 02:35 AM.

Reply:Having a BIC lighter in your packet or around you while cutting/welding is just like having a 1/4 stick of dynamite in your pocket, If I get caught with one at work it is instant termination, and every once in a while a boss walks up to ya and asks for a light for his cigarette, but it is dangerous

Reply:Duane, I don't know what version my 180sd is, all i know is that its made in 2000.I did use the serial number to download a PDF manual.  and it says pre/post flowis not adjustable.  however, if there's a hack, please enlighten me.its hooked up to that Tweco cooler/torch (which has now been moved to BELOWthe welder).Last edited by oxy moron; 05-17-2009 at 10:13 PM.
Reply:BIC lighter was used in lieu of dimes.  since i didn't know that the stuff i have was 16 gauge, i thought i just used whatever i had around.  No worries, guys, smoke break area is nowhere near the welding area.  pic was taken after all the welding was done and everything put away (2 car garage, 1 man show).  easier to grab a lighter then go inside and dig around for dimes.
