Hey all im new here, im from australia and im looking at getting an arc welder for at home jus to mess around on, i don't have access to 3-phase power so a single phase is gonna have to do. My question is, as im on a bit of a budget il proly end up getting a second hand one and im just wondering are there any brands of arc welders to avoid? Or Any suggestions on which brands people would reccomend.Any input would be much appreciated.

Reply:You'll be fine with just about anything from Miller, Lincoln, ESAB, Hobart, Thermal Arc or HTP. Reply:Are you wanting MIG or stick? I agree completely with DesertRider buy a name brand. There are a few others if you are on a budget & buy used. Repair parts may not be still avalible but on stick welders you can throw in Airco, Westinghouse, older Hobart Brothers, Marquette. If you can test it before you buy. There just isn't much that goes wrong with a stick machine.
