Hi, Im new to the forum and relitively new to welding in general. Ive jumped in and gotten the bug big time completed a adult welding class etc etc mainly because I wanted to quit begging people to weld my Jeep parts for me haha and since been able to achieve lots more with this new knowledge. ANYWAYI bought a new Millermatic 211 Autoset MVP in January and love it the thing is perfect and in perfect shape. However Ive been lusting for a TIG welder since I finished both of my classes. I found a person willing to trade a Lincoln Squarewave 175 (one of the machines I learned to TIG on so Im relitively familiar with it) with extra cups tungstens and all the parts it came with new. I mainly am a hobbiest Im not producing anything on a big scale. I know my mig would be better for that and cheaper in ways. However I would be able to weld more intricate and smaller things with a decent tig and pretty much whatever I came across albeit slower and probably more expensive for certain things and I get a nice stick option with it. I dunno though its who knows how old it looks really nice and I would obviously test it out before anything was traded. Any tips or opinions on whether or not this is a good idea. Also anyone familiar with that Tig welder is there anything I should look at inparticular when checking it over? Any help would be very helpfull thanks! I hope to be able to contribute to the boards more down the line and hopefully learn alot from you more experianced welders out there!Last edited by TJTRENT; 07-14-2012 at 03:51 PM.
Reply:i think you should keep the miller 211 and maybe look for a used tig machine to buy. but if thats not a option do what you want if you want to tig then tig!Miller Pro 300 SS w/ cat Miller Bobcat 250Miller Diversion 165 Miller 211Miller Xtreme 375Miller 12vsMiller Dynasty 200 DX Miller Passport Plus w/ Spool GunMiller 30a spoolmaticLincoln AC225 Buzz Box VictorMathey Dearman - H&M
Reply:I agree on keeping the 211, you have the perfect mig and you know what you have since you bought it new. Also a less experienced welder Imo can do more with a mig in general. Now save your coin and buy the perfect tig to compliment the 211.
Reply:I third the motion! Just my opinion tho. you will always have a use for both machines, so I wouldnt sell one only to get another. Would you sell all your ratchets to buy a impact gun? Just a comparison.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:never let lose of your toolsjust buy more
Reply:OK, It's settled. YOU WILL KEEP the 211 ! END OF STORY. Now save for a MILLER syncro 200 machine. You will not find anyone in their right mind say sell. If you do decide to sell you will be kicking yourself later.
Reply:It all depends on what you need to do. I have a monster 300 amp mig machine that collects dust because I really don't like mig welding. I have it listed on Craigslist because I'd rather have a small 120v mig and use my sync 250 for everything else. Tig is far more versitile than mig but I have a feeling you'll want more than the sw175 offers down the road.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using TapatalkESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:If I had to choose between my syncrowave vs. my millermatic plus $1000, I'd take the syncrowave. MIG sucks.Have you compared the retail prices of these two? It's a no brainer if you look at it that way.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:I finally have both machines. For many many years ALL I used was my 175 square wave! I love the machine! Most versatile machine you will ever own! I wouldn't trade strait up because the 211 should be worth a little more but if its going to be your only welder I would for sure go with the TIG!Mild, stainless, aluminum, titanium, magnesium, you name it, it can be welded without much change to the welder and its consumables. Clean welds, small precise welds, you get it all.Try this with your MIG: |
