I have been working on my belt driven 14" drycut saw i had a working prototype using a 7" metal cutting blade worked good making a few changes.I want to know if any one has any idea and also why does no one else make one I searched and didnt find any homemade ones on here.I will try and get some pics i took apart to get it ready for the 14" blade.
Reply:I love seeing homemade tools.  Please post some pics and more details about the materials used, types of bearings, etc.  What motor and what rpm your blade will be turning at.I got a good deal on a dewalt dry cut 14" about a year ago.  Very nice saw.  Let me know if you need any specs or measurements off the dewalt.
Reply:Well for the motor I had a 3/4 hp laying around prob not big enough but worked ok for the prototype, blade will be running about 1500r rpms. I just used some pillow blocks for the bearings. I have it all tore apart making the guards and getting ready for paint it wont look to pretty when done but i think it will work good.Going to order the frued diablo metal blade.

Reply:what rpm is a drycut blade run at vs a typical chop saw?Like can you just stick a drycut blade in an abrasive chop saw or does the abrasive chop saw run at higher wood cuttting speeds?
Reply:You can't.  The dry cut blades typically run at 1300-1500 rpm.  Cut-off saws and miter saws run much faster, and you'll burn the blades out right away.  (I tried.)Some steel-cutting blades are made for higher rpms.  Freud Diablo are Italian blades that can be had for very little money on ebay ($40 for 14", $20 for 7-1/4") and their 7-1/4" blades can be run on an ordinary circular saw.Dry cut saws are now being made in China.  Northern Tool has one for $300.  I assume Harbor Freight will bring the price point down further when they start selling one.Jack OlsenMy garage website
