I built this for $90.   It's designed after the $180 one that is made by Monark.  I found a cheaper / lower quality hoist online for $80, but it's not as heavy-duty.  I used 2 inch square tubing, 3/16 thick for the main structure.  The top and bottom horizontal is 28" and the main verticle is 6'.  The store bought ones are 6.5 - 7' tall.  I wanted to fit it easily in my 6'6" truck bed.   The store bought ones will also swing 360 degrees and take-down in half.......neither of these were important to me.  However,  this could easily be accomplished by using a Chicksan joint for the swinging, and  a reciever / coupler for the take-down.  I may do this in the future.  I made the gambrel out of hot roll rod.   Probably $1 worth of hot roll.  The pulleys and winch came from Harbor Freight.  NOTE:  the 28" bottom horizontal allows for the tailgate to be down.
