Lincoln spoolgun?

Hi , New guy here. I just purchased a Lincoln SP 180 T.  Has anyone used a lincoln 100sg k2532-1 . Just curious what thickness aluminum can be welded, and is the spoolgun effective?

Reply:I hate to say it but Lincoln spoolguns really havent improved. they still suck. I hate lincolns spoolguns due to them being high priced (about same price as millers) but the quality is terrible, and they seem to be cheap built. So for the quality, they are very high priced. The only lincoln gun that I like over millers is the push pull python gun.
Reply:Is welding alum. with MIG as good as with a TIG machine.  Ive never TIG welded or welded alum. before so im just curious.
Reply:It is worth getting if you want to do occasional Al.  It will do 1/4 inch Al.  It does appear to be cheaper than the Miller equivilent.  Do a search on this forum for lincoln spoolguns.  I have posted some stuff and photos of welds as others have too.

Reply:I have a lincoln 180 and also the 100sg spool gun.  I have been doing a good bit of 1/8" aluminum with it and recently did some 1/4" and 3/8" stuff and it turned out just nice.Now, don't look at the "online" pricing for the spool gun.  I got mine MUCH cheaper at my local supply house versus the online pricing.One more thing, before you leave the store with it, tell them to open the box and make sure the guide between the spool and the rollers is there.  Scroll down to the lincoln forum and you will see mine and a few others were missing this guide when new.  No problem for me, I made a new one on my lathe, but a lot of people do not have that access to a lathe and have to return it for a new one.  But other than that, it has worked like a charm since the first day I have used it.Jamie WebbWelder & InspectorBusiness and HobbyLincoln Pro-Mig 180 with Spool Gun and Lincoln AC225
