I've been trying to get better at welding down hand  with stick. Since I acquired my Idealarc a few weeks ago, I believe I have finally got the grasp to down hand stick. I learned the theory awhile back to down hand stick but theory only. In my reading and studying on my own I didn't have the opportunity to be taught practical down hand. Thus my down hand or virticle has been very poor to say the least. The welder came with a wheel cart but It needed something to carry cable. 4 pieces of 24" long 1" angle iron 1/8" think was welded to the front and back of the wheel cart with some thick flat bar on top of the angle to hold the cables. Electrode used for my down hand weld was Certanium 702 3/32 at 70-75 amps DC+The first post. I had issues filling in the top of the weld where the post was tacked. But it looks like I started to get the grasp of staying ahead of the flux and the dip and angle of the electrode. Right side was the first weld and left side second weld. Reply:Mission accomplished.  I need to extend the virticle holder fingers a few inches as I underestimated how much cable I had but I believe this will work with the little material I had on hand. I paid careful attention to not restrict airflow through the case with the cable hanging placement. Reply:that would be down hill, not down hand....technically.down hand used to be pulling a bead towards you on a horizontal surface last time i looked.anyways...it looks like you got it to work well, whatever the terminology.G

Reply:Close up shots of the electrode. All Certanium electrodes are a bit more pricey than most others. They do run very nice though.
