Well I thought while I was posting stuff up I would show off some of the other stuff I have been working on.  Here is an engine stand that I just finished so I could rebuild a Aluminum 5.3l for my suburban.  It made from 4x4" 1/4" wall sq. tubing, the main shaft rides on sealed bearings, and I made an aluminum troff to hold all the fluids that come out during disassembly.  Here is the engine mount plate made from 1/2" plate cnc plasma cut.And here is a view from further back. And here is a view of my metal tubing rack to hold all that expensive DOM.I'm getting close to me limit on pictures so I post more in just a second.  AndrewHobart Handler 135 MIGLincoln Idealarc 255 MIGLincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln "BUZZ BOX" Stick welderMiller 252 MIgHobart 350 DC stick welderMiller Bobcat 11,000-GEN/Stick WelderThermal Dynamics 55AMP Plasma Cutter
Reply:And here are some pictures of my bead roller stand.  I bought this base from Spirit Surplus, aka Boeing Surplus it was some kind of transit stand.  I got it for around $10 and make some improvements on.  The stand works great as you pull a pin and the raise a handle and the stand lifts off the wheels and sits on some bolts to keep it still.  And here is me sheetmetal rack that I install slider roller on the ends, and bent all the 1" tubing with my bender.   Well thanks for looking.  AndrewHobart Handler 135 MIGLincoln Idealarc 255 MIGLincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln "BUZZ BOX" Stick welderMiller 252 MIgHobart 350 DC stick welderMiller Bobcat 11,000-GEN/Stick WelderThermal Dynamics 55AMP Plasma Cutter
Reply:Awesome. Good way to keep the fluids contained.UA Local 598
Reply:That's a heck of a nice engine stand with sealed bearings. Very nice. Your flat stock rack is nice. Have you thought about putting a roller in the middle? I think a roller in the middle would make it easier to load and unload.
Reply:Wouldn't a roller in the middle make all the pieces roll together.
Reply:I like the roller on the end of the sheet rack.  That's pretty slick....

Reply:Thanks for the comments, Yeah I mounted a roller on each of the sheetmetal rack, the rollers are mounted about 1-2 inches wider than 8ft., and about 1/2" higher than the base, and as most sheets come in 4x8 I can just lift it up one end and move it alittle to roll it off, or just the opposite to load it just lift up one edge start rolling it on and keep pushing tell it stops by hitting the other roller.  Yeah the bead roller stand I am still working on, as I have a bunch more dies to mount so I am making a another side support that mimics the other side,  but have cut off the steel one that is in the picture as I have made both sides out of stainless this time to keep where the dies slide on the round rod from rusting and keeping the dies from coming back-off.  I hope that is not to confusing.  I also mounted a craftsman retractable reel that I put a male end on so I can take the bead roller to where I am working and just pull cord to the nearest plug-in.  Thanks again for looking and the comments. Reply:Well its been almost 6 months since I updated this one so I will give it a shot.  I got the bead roller stand finished.  Here are some pictures of that. And here are some pictures of the pedal mount I made for the bead roller pedal.I also remounted my tig rod holders as I didn't like the way they were mounted before, now they just need some black paint.I need to make another mount for the tig pedal, and build into that a hook for the ground, and the wire for the pedal.  Oh and to aid me in making another pedal mount, I had to pick up one of these as I have been looking for one for some time now.  And this new (new to me) baby, I might get around to making a new tray for the engine stand.Hope you enjoy, and feel free to comment.  Thanks AndrewHobart Handler 135 MIGLincoln Idealarc 255 MIGLincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln "BUZZ BOX" Stick welderMiller 252 MIgHobart 350 DC stick welderMiller Bobcat 11,000-GEN/Stick WelderThermal Dynamics 55AMP Plasma Cutter

Reply:Well actually this one is a 6'x14ga. I have been looking for a 4'x12 but didn't really want to pay the $4-5 grand they have been wanting.  I picked this one up off of craigslist for $3000.  And from what I have found out this one is alittle more rare.  As it is a 8" box model instead of the standard 6".  I didn't want to sit for to long when I found the listing.Hobart Handler 135 MIGLincoln Idealarc 255 MIGLincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln "BUZZ BOX" Stick welderMiller 252 MIgHobart 350 DC stick welderMiller Bobcat 11,000-GEN/Stick WelderThermal Dynamics 55AMP Plasma Cutter
Reply:I've seen a handful of 6' 14 gauge ones for sale (most still for more than you paid), but I need it to bend .125 aluminum quite regularly, hence the need for a 12 gauge one.  I'm not seeing many of those for sale at all.  I've seen bunches of 4' 14 gauge ones, and a few 412s, but I think for the marine stuff I'm doing, I'd be happier with the 6' (or bigger).Who is John Galt?
Reply:bassman, please pay close attention to the bend radius of the 50 series alloys before making your move on bending/braking/pressing equipment.  5052 will strain harden and stress 'fray' or fail into striations along the bend line at about 2-2.5 T radius and 5086 needs nearly 3.5- 4.5 R to bend.  That is R not D.That big soft curve in both materials is a major pain in the stern but a fact of life requiring caution or rework if the bends are vibrated or flexure strained regularly.  Lockers, tool boxes, many interior fittings and lots of less critical parts will get by tighter than this..... but .....Word to the upcoming boat builder from someone (old lame welder) who had to 'buy back'/replace a dozen 50 and 150 gallon fuel/gas tanks in his first year building! Not many pan brakes come with a nose bar of 4T Radius for bending marine alloys correctly.Cheers,Kevin Morin
