Reply:You may be too old to learn to weld. I learned when I had barely I had 2 digits in my age, and I think I would have been better if i had done more quicker. In 1950 the Lincoln arc welding foundation was advocating teaching 7 year olds to weld. I agree!  The fine motor skills and visual skills are best learned young.        But don't give up. I have taught hundreds of college students up to maybe 20-25 to weld with fair success.       So - all you young folks - get in touch!!                 Good luck!past work toys; lathes,mills, drills, saws,  robots, lasers ironworker, shears, brake, press, grinders, tensile tester,  torches, tigs, migs, sticks, platten table, positioner,  plasmas , gleeble and spot. Retired June 30, 2009.

Reply:I start with a Snap on MIG welder at 14. Now 25 ive learned stick and tig.

Reply:hi, my name is jordan. i live in trumbull, ct, well i WAS a teen couple weeks ago ( i just turned 20 )just finished my 2 years at SUNY Delhigot 11 shop certifications. all on 3/8th thick mild steel/ 22.5 degree bevels / 1/4" root gap/ 1/4" backing plate. 1/8" 7018- 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G.1/8" 6010- 1GGTAW- 1G, 3GM.I.G- 1G, 2G, 3G, 4Gnot bad for striking my first arc in the first day of welding class in 071/8th Stainless no filler. i forget the amps, 1/16th tungsten 100% argonLast edited by Joscerb55; 06-01-2009 at 10:19 PM.

Reply:It is my understanding that both the U.S. and Canada are going to build a lot of new nuclear plants in the near future, if that comes true I assume there'll be a need for a lot of welders during the construction phase.I live in Pickering, Ontario, we have a large nuclear plant south of where I live on the shores of Lake Ontario, as I drive to work each day I frequently see vehicles with U.S. plates heading towards the facility, I think a lot of Americans have worked on contract at the Pickering site over the years but I am not sure if any were welders but you never know.Canada is big in to nuclear power, plus we have large uranium deposits (perhaps the largest in the world I think), hopefully it will result in a lot of opportunities for all kinds of jobs.Regards to all.Working on cars and bikes is my hobby, learning to weld the pieces together is my quest.

Reply:i have a 19 yr old welder as we speak on my crew who can weld anything hes way better than me (thank god i aint competing with him)  but by far the best chrome and monell welder i ever seenpipefitter/welder 7 yrsgeneral foreman 2 yrs working in the fabrication, chemical and petrochemical industry 7 yrsNCCER CERTIFIED-PIPEFITTER, IRONWORKER, WELDER STOP SNITCHING
