Well after our major manintainece at our generating station was done, the new one being built needed some attention. After the spillway was erected and comissioned. Engineers decided that it was infact not sufficient to handle the " 100 year wind " and the contractors wouldnt do it as it wasnt in their scope of work. So myself and another welder from another generating station up north got together to tackle this job. Required bracing that spanned the inside of the towers to tie them together. All made out of 1/2" x 4" angle. It was interesting to say the least, no scaffolding, winds gusting up to 50 km/h each day, and snowed the last day! gotta love northern manitoba! Attached Images

Reply:the spillway towers were "hollow" as such all the way up the center of them. They wanted additional " X " shaped 4" x 4" x 1/2" bracing installed to tie the towers together to withstand this "100 year wind" predicition. Or worst case scenerio wind/weather/ Attached ImagesLast edited by Pressure_Welder; 10-29-2010 at 10:08 PM.

Reply:nope its a smaller spillway than some of the other plants, its about 100' to the bottom of the sill plate.
Reply:Nope.. couldn't do it.. I'm deathly afraid of anything higher then two stories... I had to turn down a job at power plant because I would have been hanging 6-7 stories up from a rope.... Sucks,,www.thefusionsolution.com |
