My son asked me if I could help him build a bull guard for his Toyota and my response was no because I had no idea what it was. So he goggled it and showed me. Than my answer was of course I can.So he and a buddy made a cardboard mock up and we went to work. First I changed the shape a small amount so that the material could be purchased in two widths and trimmed to fit (no bending all cut and welded)I tacked it together and let him and his buddy do the welding and grinding. After it was welded together he wanted to add holes for lights. (good luck) But the two of them were convinced they could do it and they actually did. With whole saws and the drill press (after I slowed it down for them) Attached Images

Reply:You welded on those tow points with the 110v wire feed?I dont care how much you beveled it, thats a bad idea and well outside the capabilities of the welder.  One of those is going to become a flying hammer.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:He wont need them anyway. Yotas don't get stuck. Millermatic 251Spectrum 300 PlasmaEverlast PowerTig 250EXEverlast PowerCool W300Harris / Victor OACraftsman 13 Speed Drill PressProTools Air/Hydraulic Bender48" BrakeCompressor, Notchers, Grinders, etc.
Reply:You welded on those tow points with the 110v wire feed?Cut holes welded front and back.and told the kids to use the tow hooks that came with the truck to tow out those Fords
Reply:Nice work. Made in the U.S.A.
Reply:That looks really good!  Some of the bumpers people make look way too bulgy and oversized but that fits the Yota real nice
Reply:I like the bumper.Nice build. What is the thickness of the material you started with?

Reply:Nice looking work... but...That big hole in the original bumper is there to allow lots of air to get to the A/C condenser and radiator.  New one is pretty, but no way do you have the same cooling capacity.  Don't try towing, don't visit the grand canyon in the summer, and really don't try towing in Phoenix in the summer. I used to design parts for heater & A/C systems for OEM in Dearborn MI...  We did a lot of testing in Phoenix, in the summer...You'd be surprised.  Front end airflow really matters.  Remember power steering and transmission fluid are affected too.  --zip.
Reply:Turned out awesome. Thanks for posting your pictures. I like these kind of projects... the ones that push the equipment and experience. I'm sure the kids learned a ton! Good job Dad.
