Ceriated tungsten-2% works wellI'd read claims that 2% Ceriated tungsten holds a pointbetter, higher heat resistance, etc.---and now had occasionto try it for myself, switching back and forth from 2% thoriatedto the 2% ceriated on the same job. I'm switching to the ceriated for both DC and AC TIG.The ceriated--to me, was significantly better in holding the point, with a more stable and stiffer arc, etc. I'm impressed. The arc remained focused, even with the tiny ball on the pointend forming from tungsten melt. Yes, I'm aware that the tungsten shows some contaminationin this pic.....that didn't make Jack Squat difference in what I washaving to do on the job. .040 2% Ceriated Tungsten 15 minutes run time, pure argon, on aluminumup to 30 amps-AC15% cleaning110 cycles AC frequencyT-D 300 GTSWhttp://weldingweb.com/attachment.php...1&d=1247251829 Attached ImagesBlackbird
Reply:Did a small trial when i got my TIG also. Ran THor and Cer to compare and threw the Thor in the bin. Hand probs with not keeping a good tip and splitting. Have also tried Lanth Gold( cant remember if 1.5 or 2%) and now use a mix of Lanth and Cer. Cant tell which anymore because i have sharpened both ends but i have mainly Lanth because i know i bought a pack of them and only a couple of Cer.Everyone has mixed opinions on what is best and what they use.

Reply:I like the orange end tungsten, holds up well for almost all tasks. To much AC makes a nice blue flame ballDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Haven't tried lan yet, but did like cer much better than thor. The Thor turned really knobby at the tip on high DC. |
