I bought a Hobart Handler 187 as my first welder over a year ago and I've been wanting to get a spool gun to try and do some aluminum with MIG but the spool guns for the 187's cost in the range of 500-700 dollars for all the components that Hobart "Says" you need from them. I was wondering if there were any cheaper alternatives than buying all the Hobart made parts.Hobart Handler 1871998 VW Jetta TDI - 1997 VW Jetta Project Carhttp://calebhammel.com
Reply:Try running the AL through the regular gun- Not as good as a Spool gun but the 187 is designed to run AL.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:You should be able to push 5356 al wire through the stock gun. A teflon liner will assist in running al wire through the stock gun also. You will need the spool gun to run the softer 4043 al wire.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Ah. Didn't know I could push those through the regular gun. I'll have to give those a try then. Thanks a ton for the info. Also thanks for that link to the Install kit for the Miller Spoolmate 100 adapter.Hobart Handler 1871998 VW Jetta TDI - 1997 VW Jetta Project Carhttp://calebhammel.com
