Cast Turbine Housing Welding?

I've got a turbo that I'm just starting to try and mount onto my car.  The turbine inlet face the same way as the downpipe which makes it a little more difficult to fit and fabricate up all the piping.I know next to nothing about welding cast but was wondering if I took it down to a welding shop if they'd be able to weld on a flange onto the cast turbine housing of the turbo if I cut off the weird L shaped inlet on it.Image below kind of shows you what I'm talking about with the L-shaped neck on the turbine housing.Hobart Handler 1871998 VW Jetta TDI - 1997 VW Jetta Project Carhttp://calebhammel.com
Reply:I would not recommend altering the turbo.So, you are doing the install yourself I take it?Their are some piping kits on the aftermarket that include several different bends of pipe, caught that on Powerblock tv.What you do not use you ship back.
Reply:Can you not 'clock' the compressor housing to alter the position of the inlet relative to the exhaust housing to ease the plumbing situation?I've modified several for people before but i would only do that as a last resort. Doubt this was necessary (i only saw the compressor housing and pipe stub) but owner reckoned it was the only way to fit everything up...Any decent ally welder sould be able to sort that for you but i would make sure that they're experienced with cast Al anyway

Reply:Yep, don't know if they're all out of a VW but all VAG cases. Fairly popular one for me too, 3 or 4 a week sometimes!
