I wear glasses and would like some recommendations from my fellow visually challenged welders. Hmmmm ... perhaps, as a Noob, I should not give myself credit as a fellow welder yet. At any rate, I have a proper auto-darkening helmet for my Mig welder. However, my OA setup needs some eye protection. ThanksTom
Reply:Get prescription safety glasses, and a tinted face shield with head strap. I don't wear glasses, but that's what I've seen others wearing, and it seems to work.
Reply:I am near sighted, but don't wear corrective lens when using torch, or even welding. If you NEED corrective lens WHILE using a torch, then you might want to use goggles that use welding SIZE lens, and fit over your glasses. you can get the # 3 or #4 lens for burning ,brazing ,etc. Go around to the welding supply stores, case the joints , get aware of what they stock , and generally how they price their wares. It shouldn't take TOO long to learn which ones are knowledgeable ,and which ones just blow smoke .Ask MORE questions ,if this doesn't help. Good luck-[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:I need to get another pair soon, but I prefer to use the oversize shade 5 safety glasses that fit over my prescription glasses.
Reply:My vote would be to ditch the glasses, and use headgear that has the corrective lens built right it to it. You can get the corrective lens from any welding shop and they are the same size as the filter. I have had many students that wear bifocals or glasses in general do much better when they arent fighting image distortion and depth perception issues of wearing glasses and goggles seperately.
Reply:my speedglas 9001 has a grinding mode, all i do is flick it on to grind mode while im torch cutting. My optrel satellite also has this function.
Reply:Wally World sells clip-on sunglasses for prescription eyeglasses in a dark gray, approx. shade 4 for $15.00. These protect the glasses as well as blocking the harmful rays produced by the torch. There are no side shields tho. I have used these for several years now with no side effects.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money. -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches

Reply:Thanks folks for your input. The jury is still out while I try some options at the various Welding Supply shops locally. |
