Ive been micro tig welding at my job for about 10 years.I have only used two other tigs and only for a few minutes. So I really dont have alot of experience and dont have any formal training.I have been mig and stick welding since I was 16.(am now 36)so I do have alot of welding experience.I would like to buy a good reasonably priced tig to use at home.I work on some auto restoration projects,(frames would be the thickest I would weld)and some fab work. What would you guys recomend?I do believe you get what you pay for. Thanks
Reply:Sounds to me like you just wrote the product description for a Miller Dynasty 200 DX.After all, you DO get what you pay for.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I'm not one to push a particular product. I've got a Miller Dynasty 200DX, and absolutely love it, but couldn't tell you too much about its competition.Anyway, if you're only looking to work with steel, and don't need A/C for aluminum, there are some marvelous and affordable D/C machines out there.I specifically chose my machine because I wanted to keep that door open for aluminum (and it has come in handy a number of times), but there's a big jump in price to get A/C.I've heard good things about Miller's diversion. That would get you a D/C setup that's hard to tell from the Dynasty (just a little less current), and a simplified A/C (no frequency or balance control, but the fixed settings are supposed to be pretty good).
Reply:closest competition is a thermal arc TA185 but he dynasty will run on 110/220 that alone is handy of you want to weld something for a buddy, etc. where you can only get to any regular outlet.other than that, they are quite similar.
