So i've been TIG welding now for about 5 months or so... ive been using a miller synchrowave 350 for all of these parts, except for the one mig weld, that was a weld pak 100hd with flux core wire.how do they look? obvisouly some of the aluminum is better than others... and the big steel plate was in the beginning, and the one semi-large plate is a cert. plate for steel. most of theres were on the flat position, and the cert. plate i did was vertical up. some of the steel welds arent the best, but those were in the beginning, i'll find some other pieces i've done and post those up too. Reply:that t joint you cut seems to be solid metal,, but there are several fotos that show a crescent shaped bead at the end..some are starts, some are stops.. hotrodder pointed out to me that this may be a case of too-long arc length, creating 2 seperate puddles, hence the crescent shape with the void in it...i like the weave on ms...

Reply:i can can take some pictures with flash if that will help out at all?... most of those are with macro on, which let me get really up close and focus in.i'll have to find some of my stainless steel stuff i've been doing and post that up too.but so far my aluminum is good, beads look right and all that?
Reply:Your t joints look good with no undercut. Undercut is a no no and very common on the virticle piece with T Joints.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:On your cert peice i have issues. You never ground your stops. . . . . big no no. Your suck back crator ends up having a tiny hole if you burn it out when you start again your fine but i noticed some holes here and there on itl. Aluminum looks pretty good. I think your flat carbon welds are a little hot and you could use a touch more gas. how much are you flowin? Reply:your aluminum T that is sectioned is pretty has pretty uneven legs and seems like it has zero penetration on the vertical leg. this may be a photo issue but i can't see a line of fusion on the vertical leg. this could be a machine balance setting. more pen less cleaning. your single pass Al fillets look much more even. i was taught never to manipulate my fluxcore, not sure if that is the best way but you and your mig like torch wiping definitely wound up with some undercut. drag it, push it, spray it just don't whip it. the reasoning behind this was better pen with smoother welds, others feel free to comment on this one. |
