Hey Guys Havent been here in awhile. After I built the roller I had a crazy idea to build a truck. Talk about a welding project. Thought I would put a few pics for ya cause I know how much you like pictures. Started on this about 3 months ago and moving right along. Built frame on my table twice. LOL First time was to thin metal and wasn't paying attention. Had a time welding the thin body metal. The roller works great. Used it many times so thanks for the help and ideas. Reply:I'M no chassis expert, but it seems the rear section could be put under a fair bit of stress. Are you going to reinforce the near 90 deg. sections?
Reply:YepPlanning on running seamless 1 1/2 round from the top of the vert towards the front kick up section of the frame. Kinda like a low door bar. Thanks for the input though.Annamel TW9Y Georgia
Reply:I used to have a "rat" bike. It was a tur Frankenstein! It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build.
Reply:I DO have a rat bike - no welding, but lots of interesting work on it.

Reply:That looks like a very neat project you're doing, hopefully you'll have pics of when you're finished rebuilding this!
Reply:Its been a job. Having fun with it though. Yeh when i get it done i will show ya some pics of it. Again i would like to say thank you to all who have contributed to the roller I built.Annamel TW9Y Georgia
Reply:Not much of a rat guy, more of drag race. Usually the bars cross in a specified location for the instant center. Your bars won't ever cross. Space constraints ?
Reply:The is a dampner J bar located from pinion to frame. AdjustableAnnamel TW9Y Georgia
Reply:Whats up guys? Hope everyone has been gettin along well. Was working on a project in the shop and lookin for some info on a splitter bender conversion i am wanting to build. Been pluggiin away at the rat rod and shot a few pics out there for ya. Also a couple of monster truck i have been workin on also. Got it runnin but am now ready to put some bars in it for frame strength and am needing a bender. I have a husky log splitter and think with some work i could bend tubing with it. Enjoy the pics Attached ImagesAnnamel TW9Y Georgia

Reply:I've been wanting to build a rat rod. Where can you find a good set of plans for someone who has never built a rat rod before.

Reply:Yeh, what he said. There are no plans just yours and other ideas you have seen and liked. Its what they did in the ole days used what you had to make a hot rod that goes FAST. This is not a looks thing more of a Practality. I have seen some junk out there that shouldnt be on the road but that is with regular cars on the road also.Annamel TW9Y Georgia
Reply:Looking good! Reconized alot of racecar parts in the very first pic. See alot of it in the suspension works also!Flashhttp://flashracecarbodies.com

Reply:Originally Posted by BCRDIt seems to me you may be missing the spirit of a rat rod. Rat Rods are highly personal vehicles, built with what you have available, and exactly how you want it, giving up luxuries that you can do without (for example shiny paint and leather seats), and incorporating things you do appreciate. So personally, I would be slightly offended if you built a rod just like mine (theoretically of course, I haven't built mine yet). Therefore, I don't believe you'll find plans exist for this kind of project. So go ahead, start something. Incorporate ideas that you've seen on other examples, and discard the features you don't want. Use what you've got, (or can find / scrounge / bargain for) and have fun.I feel I should note that above all else, make it safe. There's no excuse for an unsafe vehicle. If you can't afford to make it safe, then I advise you don't start till you can.
Reply:I assume you run dirt late models with all those parts I'm seeing on there.Originally Posted by SWellsGood looking ride, I like it! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Reply:Everything except the gas tanks body are off a dirt latemodel i had but had too many memories for me to sell. All gauges and seats are out of racecars i have. Will get some detailed pics of the fab work seeings this is a welding forum for ya.Used a pinto steering rack and found a weak link in the stock tie rod so i machined some that would connect using a racing tie rod and ends and thread on the end of rack.Wanted to use jerry cans for gas tanks so i took some square and bent it to secure the tanks and plumed from the bottomBuilt a jig on my table to get correct geometry in front end to get me in the ballpark with caster and camber. The chop was my first time and up close it is a nightmare but thats how we learn. Made a pie cut at the a piller and put it right in the lead filler they used way back when and belive me when i say you cant weld there nor grind without a resperator. Hope ya enjoy them.
