security door lock housing?

Hi guysQuick question:I'm doing a security door that will look something like http://images.google.com/imgres?q=se...81&tx=45&ty=73My question is about the lock enclosure.  Should I just bend and weld some sheet metal?  Or is there a standard lock housing that I can buy at my metal supplier?  Never done a door before... just shop stuff.Thanks!jj

Reply:I wish I could build those for my house. My wife HATES security screen doors. I don't think they are all that secure, but it is one more level of difficulty an intruder must deal with. Plus, they make a lot of noise. Reply:A lot of those use a special thin style of mortice lock.I've been thinking about making one that uses a more standard lock from a regular steel door.Something like this (there are tons of variants to suit your needs):http://kingmetals.com/Catalog/ItemCo...EB11B618B044B0

Reply:No, box stores do not have stuff that's meant to be welded together.  My local Ace has weldable hinges, but that's about it.  King is the king when it comes to this.Browse their pages, and you'll find pre-made boxes for every conceivable lock you want to use.  Price primarily depends on weight and complexity, but I sure wouldn't be saving a few bucks on something like this.  The layout time alone required to get it all aligned right makes it worthwhile to buy one, and I'm just a hobbyist saying this.

Reply:Triple S Steel has them in their catalog and you cannot make one for what they want for it.  sss-steel.comwill get you there. Lots of good stuff in the catalog for custom railings.
