So we just finished this rail yesterday and shipped it with two guys to have installed, pretty neat staircase railing, these pictures stemmed from my "small area grinding" thread so here they are, sorry for the crappy pictures, I just got in the shop they had the truck running and waiting to GO! P.S. riding in an isuzu NPR from monterey to merced to fresno and back again sucks  but the hot dip galvy turned out nice for a change.  Attached Images"...My pappy was a pistol I'm a son of a gun...""...God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy..."
Reply:you should try leaving in fresno.
Reply:so in the first pic..the 1/2 stock sticks up about 1 or 1 1/2 inch.. is that the weld the boss needed ground?
Reply:Is that the 5/8"-ish punched solid square bar from King or some one like that?Very nice.I built about 75 feet of rail from the hammered round bar version of that stuff a few years ago. What a P-I-T-A !!!!!!!Not to mention the Architect of record was just as big a pita!Instead of just having 2 punched bars horizontally, He wanted "squares", so there were around 6 or 7 rows of the hammered punched bar filled with the hammered round bar. We had to weld all the way around the top of each joint. We told him no way were we grinding all of those and just laid down our prettiest beads and let them go. I forget how many each panel had, but figure a joint was no more than 4-1/2" in any direction. Ugh! We had to keep the bars level on the stair rails, too. That was quite a challenge in itself since the stairs were not very evenly spaced and sloped. Came out real nice when it was done though.Total pain, but that stuff makes for some pretty rails. Is the top of the rail complete or does it get a cap of some sort on it?Brian LeonardAppalachian Ironworks L.L.C.434 Long Branch Rd, Marshall, NC 28753828 649 9966828 702 [email protected]

Reply:ah hah.......thanks very much
Reply:The stuff is "upset" then punched.  Hence the material around the baluster is pretty close to 1/2 the width of the horizontal bar. Anyway, the is all just looks heavy to me.  Looks like a fun build,... just wouldn't want to move it.  I'll be looking forward to the finished photos.   Is that a wall mounted rail in the front lower part of the photo.
