Getting my first mig setup and I got a Bernard Q300 off ebay.  It came with a .052 tip and no documentation.  If I want to run smaller wire (.045) do I need to get a different liner as well as the tip?
Reply:You should get the .045 liner.  You can run .045 wire in the larger liner and it will work ok most of the time, but you may experience 'snaking' of the wire in the liner and erratic feeding when the whip is bent around alot.  I experienced that when running .035 wire in the .045 liner.  Switching to an .035 liner fixed it right up.  The liners are not expensive or difficult to install and any Miller dealer can order one for you.  I paid about $20 for the 1/16 liner I got recently at the local welding supply.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
