Blue oxygen tank

A friend of mine wants me to do some welding for him with my new to me mig welder.  He said that for doing the welding he would give me a oxygen tank.  I don't have a tank for my welder yet, I called airgas and they said they would swap it out for a mig tank.  I didn't mention to them that it was a blue tank.  I have to goto them because it says Michigan Airgas all over the tank.  My question is I have no paper work on this tank and it seems strange that it is blue. I thought all oxygen tanks had to be green.  He cleans up foreclosed houses for banks and found these two tanks in a shed.  Should I run?

Reply:Really depends on the state you're in and the companys there marketing mostly. I don't think there is a required color that is spec'd; but typically they are green.  Keep in mind though if you got into the tank trading deals at Tractor Supply all their tanks are blue, O2; acetylene and mix gases...don't recall the name of the supplier but that's their marketing model to keep you coming back there.If the tank is under 200 or so cu ft then it's probably an owner tank which is all you have to worry about, the really large ones are normally leased tanks and you normally can't get those filled except by the lease holder.  Normally leased tanks state such on the tank rim or state the owner of the tank.  Bottom line take them to your local LWS and see what they say, mine normally trades out easily.  If they give you a hard time, take them with you and try another.jbman45Century 230A AC/DCLongevity 200 Multifunction MofsetLongevity 200PI Multifunction IGBTVictor Oxy/Weld&Cut5HP 2 stage compressorTractor; tools and 40  years of collecting fine tools.
Reply:Blue O2 tanks aren't that uncommon. O2 tanks from welsco in Arkansas are blue while Airgas tanks are green.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
