I've got an old Oxy/Acetylene setup that my grandpa had. It is a Craftsman regulator set.My Oxygen is not able to keep up with the torch demands, from my experiences with pneumatics it appears that the regulator needs rebuilt. I am not having any luck finding a rebuild kit for this regulator. Is anyone aware of one out there? The part number that I got from the regulator is 313-543040.I appreciate the help!Murphy's Law: When something has been made idiot-proof, someone will invent a better idiot.  -MAC702
Reply:Check with these guys.  Good luck. www.billswelderrepair.com  They deal with torch repair.  I know Victor for sure, dont know about Craftsman.  Have you checked through Sears Parts.  Do a search on google for their web site.Last edited by smawgmaw; 09-29-2009 at 07:21 PM.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:I have searched Craftsman's website and found nothing related to that part number. In fact when I was looking at their website, it didn't appear as though they even offer a rebuild kit for their regulators.I will check the website that you referenced above and see if they can help.Thank you!Murphy's Law: When something has been made idiot-proof, someone will invent a better idiot.  -MAC702
Reply:For what its worth, O2 regs need special handling when rebuilt. It's not usually the sort of thing the average person should do. Almost material will burn when exposed to HP O2, and any oils or contaminants that get in the reg can lead to an O2 fire. You might send OAdoctor here a Pm about a rebuild, but I doubt it is worth the costs. Usually its cheaper to replace most regs than rebuild them..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Why do you think the regulator needs to be rebuilt.  JGSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:I will looking into the safety of rebuilding the regulator. I was not aware of the concerns of the fire, I have rebuilt several regulators in industrial applications, but always for compressed air, and inert gases.weldgault, my reasoning for the regulator needing rebuilt. The O2 tank is 75% full, this I have verified. When using the torch I get my flame set and heat my metal, when I begin my cut I get about 15 seconds of good cutting, then all I have is an Acetylene flame. look up at the regulator and my O2 tank pressure is still good. But the pressure to the torch has gone to 0. I have tried a different torch and different regulator, the new regulator and my old torch worked. My old regulator and the new torch did not work. Therefore I point to the regulator.Murphy's Law: When something has been made idiot-proof, someone will invent a better idiot.  -MAC702
Reply:I do not have Craftsman Regulator model numbers, so you may not have the regulator I think you have.  If you could P.M. me a picture and i can ID and know for sure. That being said, Craftsman two stage regulators made by Harris have a part in the first stage of the regulator that is made of alumium.  Over time the parts concaves.  When this parts concaves, you will have pressure, but no flow.  This sound exactly like the problem you are experiening.   We can rebuild the Harris(Craftsman for about $70.00) or you can purchase a repair kit for $45.00.Hope this helps.OAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:OAdoctor - I recently purchased a cheap O2 regulator from HF. As I suspected, this did resolve my flow issue. However, with the cost so high to rebuild just the O2 regulator, I am going to use the cheap regulator until I can justify purchasing a new setup. Figure I can get a new set for probably about double what the rebuild would cost, and have both regulators new and of higher quality than the Craftsman units. If I am mistaken and the units I have are actually of high quality and worth the rebuild, please let me know. I will start saving my pennies to send it in for a rebuild. Thanks!Murphy's Law: When something has been made idiot-proof, someone will invent a better idiot.  -MAC702
Reply:The Craftsman is an OK regulator, but it is a toss up if it is worth repairing.  They are two stage regulators which make them expensive to repair.  It is basically two regulators in one, which doubles the parts cost.  Most applications do not need two stage regulators. When you get ready to purchase new one let me know.  I may be able to save you some money.JimOAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:Jim,I will keep take you up on that offer when the time comes to get a new regulator set. I appreciate it.Thank youDavidMurphy's Law: When something has been made idiot-proof, someone will invent a better idiot.  -MAC702
