Reply:Getting better. Keep burning rod, you'll get use to watching the puddle. Don't be afraid to use the plate up. You can weld lines then overlap the beads and run more beads. Then after that run more beads. Before long you'll be able to notice a difference between what you did today and what you are doing then.
Reply:The 6013 at 120amps is starting to look ok.I've found that 6013 will burn nice and hot for about the first 1/3 of the rod, then start running cooler as the rod heats up. Strange, but it's been my experience. If you look at your stringer, you'll notice that the heat was pretty good at the beginning, but the bead started to look a little high as you progressed, this could be a sign of the rod running cooler or you slowing down and starting to pile the metal.Try higher amps (135), and you might be pleasantly surprised. Most of the drag rods seem to like it hot"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I would still clean the plate better.
Reply:Maybe it's me but judging from the spatter I think your arc is still too long too but definately looking better.Keep a tight arc and steady hand. Use your gloved free hand to rest the rod on for good control especially with a new rod.Focus on the molten puddle of metal in the middle and not on the slag around it.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base! |
