A Unique Shop Stool

There are a million ways to make a shop stool out of an old or new tractor seat, here's my application.  Just the right height, nice amount of spring in the 1/2" bar, it's stable, has a leg rest, and it has a coolness factor.  Cheers.

Reply:Well....... it will hold my rear end which is pushing 275 LBS don't know too many other "XXL" fellows.......solid as a rock up to that weight....after that it has an Oklahoma Warranty.....if it breaks into two pieces, you get to keep both pieces........

Reply:I just got a hold of some old tractor seats and am interested in making a few of these for the shop.  What do you think I should use for the main support if I am a little bigger than "XXL"?  Say maybe "XXXXXL"!I am 6'4" and around 380lbs.  I've got some 1/2" by 4" but I don't know how I would bend it with the tools I have, what else cold a guy use?

Reply:Very cool indeed.But it looks about as comfy as it would have when sitting on that old tractor it came off My boney butt needs a cushion I reckonGents--thanks for compliments, I had it Powder Coated along with some other stuff I was having done, here's a shot of it. In terms of where to get the seat, I got mine from eBay for $14 bucks plus shipping, but I can't find the same fellow again, it was new replacement, probably stamped out by an 8 year old Chinese girl working in the basement of her daddy's house. Sorry I can't be more help there.As far as the structural strength and the maximum breaking point, I can only attest to my fat a$$.  Base on no scientific data what so ever, the support bar should be directly proportional to the size of the posterior.  A 1/2" X 2 bar was used, heated with a rose bud until nice and yellow hot then wrapped around a piece of 8" pipe (sorry no photos, if I tried you would be reading about another torch incident).  May I offer that 5/8" would carry a few more pounds and 3/4 might handle the giants among us.  You could always add another brace but it would loose some of the springy nature which is really cool.

The spring/flex was perfect. They're hard to get these days over here - too many people making seats out of them I guess.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
