I was looking into getting my 1st Tig setup. How do you guys think about the TIG Inverter Welder? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=98233
Reply:it says 5/32 tungsten ina 165 amp machine. i think thats too much tungsten. you gonna need collet bodies for smaller tung, id say 3/32 is what you want.
Reply:It looks like an OK welder but I can't imagine buying a tig that can not do aluminum.Good LuckMiller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:FWIW, this cannot do aluminum because it is DC only.  AC is necessary for welding aluminum. You will hear mixed review of HarborFreight stuff, but personally, I have been for the most part quite pleased with what I have purchased from them.I'd say go for it if it is what you want, and will do what you need. Here is a youtube video of a guy reviewing HF stuff; the 90amp inverter stick welder in particular.I especially like how he said hes gotten his money out of it already and if it died right then, it would go out and buy another one.Take Care.Last edited by razer; 11-04-2009 at 05:15 PM.
Reply:Thanks guys, I'm manly buying is to get better at thin gage stuff. The price is cheaper than a sem. of welding class.

Reply:Does it have a remote amperage control?
Reply:I would look for a used EconoTIG instead.  EconoTIG is AC/DC/HF tig/stick.  As far as learning goes, your money would be better spent on a semester of welding class than on a cheap machine and trial and error practicing.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
