Reply:Can you do it T&M? Meaning, your hourly labor rate AND cost of gasses. Or do you just have to come up with a total hourly rate which includes materials? The latter would be more difficult unless you know exactly how much gas it will cost you to cut everything up. I would suggest maybe a liquid O2 bottle. I think the cost of a 180 bottle was equal to seven "K" cylinders and I think that gave you seventeen "K" cylinders of O2."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:What exactly are you do to these railcars? and who for?I work for a railroad, and worked as a Car Mechanic for years before moving into the office.
Reply:Another vote for liquid oxygen and propane. Nothing like seeing the torch lines freeze 5 ft from the tanksYou have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else. Albert Einstein

Reply:I can't tell from the picture; what kind of metal are the tubes? Carbon steel, higher alloy, maybe even stainless? How are they interconnected? Looks like they're welded just near the ends, with brackets in between towards the middle. " some of the steel is up to 2" "Anyone thinking about spud guns?

Reply:2" thick wow, thats going to take some time. Consumables are always a factor with time. You might need up to #6 cutting tips to sever the 2". How is the material carried away when its cut? Im guessing crane? Do you have to pay for the crane time as well? Also what are the dangers of working around helium tanks and the tanks in general? You could bid high and still get it as no one else may be interested in taking on the job. You could hire Stick-man! Find out what exactly is in those containers if they haven't told you already. There apparently are different types of helium with different reactions. Wikii Info on helium. Good luck, hope it works out for you! Im guessing your a self employed mobile welder?Last edited by oxygen454; 01-13-2011 at 10:31 PM.

Reply:The thinner stuff could be done by plasma, saving a lot of money. I'd save the stuff over 1" for the gas axe...if you have a 60-80 amp plasma...Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT |
