Reply:Where I worked we got in sq. tube anywhere from 1/2" to 6" Sq. most of it came from Alcoa.I would google there website the list all sorts of shapes and dist.

Reply:I'm wondering if they simply had a sheet bent that way and you can't see the weld on the lower seam on the far side. There would only be one weld that way and fairly easy if someone had access to a brake.You can also get just about any shape you want done in an extrusion if you purchase a large enough quantity or pay enough for the single piece. Many times you'll find production parts in nonstandard shapes, sizes, thicknesses simply because the cost savings on materials outweighs the cost for setup/tooling to get the material made or to fab the part up in a more conventional manner. They may not even be the one who has this requirement. They may simply know someone who has that particular shape/size as their "standard" and they are buying shorts the other company is scrapping. I've seen several "production" jobs set up around readily available "scrap"..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
