I have searched the forums, I can't seem to find the info I'm looking for.Can someone let me know if I can run my Lincoln LN-25 welder off of a Miller XMT 304 CC? Thanks in advanceLincoln Tig 300Miller Dial Arc HFHobart MigLincoln LN 25Atlas latheAnd a lotta other stuff
Reply:Yes you can and some folks do use constant current with a voltage sensing feeder to run large diameter fluxcore wires, but constant current is not the desired mode for running wire.  If you want to run wire with an XMT, you're better off to get ahold of the CC/CV model.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:So it will work, But it's not really made for running wire. A little background, I plan on using .035 & .045 wire in the LN 25, either flux core or mig. Mostly for the lighter welding that I do.So what makes it undesirable?Lincoln Tig 300Miller Dial Arc HFHobart MigLincoln LN 25Atlas latheAnd a lotta other stuff
Reply:They don't run small wire short arc well at all.  They also don't do vert and overhead positions as well in CC as they do in CV mode. That XMT is Constant Current. Mig wants Constant Voltage. The feeder tricks the machine into CV by constantly adjusting the wire speed to try and keep the voltage constant, unlike a mig where you set the voltage and set the wire speed to a constant. With small wire the changes in speed are much greater as the wire burns back. It's very dificult for the machine to maintain a constant voltage. It's like trying to mig weld with the wire speed way to fast or way too slow. The wire will keep stubing into the material or burning back on the tip.Best bet is with large diameter wires or a CV machine. That or just get a dedicated all in one mig..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:Yep, what DSW said...If you haven't bought it yet, just pass that one up and look for a CC/CV model.  They're for sale used all the time, should have no problem finding one.   If you already own the machine, you can get a fair price for it used and not spend much more money replacing it with another used CC/CV model instead.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Hey everyone, thanks for all of the info. So, yesterday I bought a Miller Shopmaster 300 CC/CV power unit. Any tips for setting up this unit?ThanksLincoln Tig 300Miller Dial Arc HFHobart MigLincoln LN 25Atlas latheAnd a lotta other stuff

Reply:Originally Posted by JohnnyWelderHave you called Miller or Lincoln and asked them about this?Maybe they overlooked the fact that they made it a point to mfg parts that are not compatible with the competitor. You probably need to modify to make them work.
