My old MIG came with a custom cart. It did it's job, but it really primitive in form and function.I really don't like the off-the-shelf welding carts out there. And I hear it is a right of passage to build your own any way. I have seen many cart pictures here and on the Internet. I have come up with a design choosing elements from everyone and will post pictures when finished. The 1" square tubing at HomeCheapo was almost $2 per foot 16ga, IMS wanted $1 for 16ga. I looked around and found a small place that let it go for $0.45 a foot. I am sure I can get this thing built for under $50. Just wondering what steel tubing prices are in your part of the country?BillMillermatic 2111960 Ford Ranchero1975 Dodge B200
Reply:I wont pay more than $1.10 a pound. The local steel guy sells to me for $0.68 a pound. Also my work helps out big time with free scrap and cheaper prices on steel. Welding shops have some good deals on steal as there cost is lower than places like HomeDepot. Larger volume gives buyers a better deal almost always.

Reply:My local steel supplier sells hot rolled mild steel for approximately .53 cents per lb.The price varies slightly depending on what steel prices were when they purchased from their supplier. |
