If you remember what the pics look like from my first post, I think Im improving a bit. Got a few compliments from friends claiming that I was better than most on my second day. Hoping that by the end of the month I will feel comfortable with doing my first bench. Definately going to keep it simple though Attached Images
Reply:get yourself a grinder and flap wheel and clean that mill scale off to shiny metal where you weld and where you attach your ground350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:Ive got em, just didnt use them because it was brand new steel from Lowes. All the dirt and stuff is from the welding itself, but Ill definately give it a shot, I am the rookie lol
Reply:doesnt matter new steel has mill scale and often oil to keep it from rusting during shipment get it shiny for better contact also do your wallet a favor go to your local steel supply for metals those metal racks at Lowe's and HD are a ripoff way overpriced you most likely can get more steel for the same money at a steel supply 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:There's no Steel supply around me, atleast according to google. All there is is a few scrap yards and they dont have anything other than rusted out cars and huge beams they want 39 cents a pound for. However I did find a welding shop with a guy that has given me a few pieces of scrap from time to time
Reply:I'm a rookie myself with no room to talk, but just a few ideas or suggestions on the no steel yard. If your practicing it doesn't matter what it is your welding on. Clean it and weld it. Try stuff like old lawn mower blades, old car rims, rebar, etc. Anything is good to practice on. Everyone tells me oh wow you can weld? I say no I can just melt crap together. Reply:well there ya go head down to the weld shop ad ask them where they get there steel from i would think if your town has lowes then you gotta have someone selling metal hell maybe not keep practicing looking better350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off |
