I picked up a Western 71/2 foot plow. It wasn't wide enough for me so I made some heavy duty wings that extended th plow to 81/2 feet (actually 103 inches, 1 inch wider than the 102 inch limit here in Ontario...Wooops)Here are some pictures I thought I would share.Sorry for any quality issues, I took them with my cell phone. May take me a couple minutes to post the pictures because of the 5 picture per post limitation. Attached Images

Reply:Nice work starc. Looks good from here.As for that 1" over the 102" limit, just transport it in the angled position.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Not bad. We did something similar to a Meyers years ago to widen one to 9', but it was all straight rather than canted like yours..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I find it enables the blade to hold more snow as well as cleaning along a raised sidewalk with a curb edge, the snow tends to flow into the plow rather than onto the walk. Less cleanup after.Last edited by starc; 12-18-2009 at 07:34 PM.
Reply:Looks good starc. Do the wings have any positive or negative effects on the discharge side of the plow?
Reply:No, not when the blade is angled, works great
Reply:Thats awesome Starc. Good Work. Have you been getting lots of snow? Or is it pretty mild?
Reply:That is a beautiful piece of fitup work I like the trick with the adhesive paper to get the cut for the moldboard skin.Torch work is really cool too. WE DON'T NEED NO STEENKIN' PLASMAS"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:It snowed here....once.
Reply:I'm in St Catharines near Niagara Falls. It did snow in Fort Erie and I was up in Mississauga and Scarborough and seen some piles of snow. Haven't done much more than salt a few lots this year so far. Had enough once to test out a few things...
Reply:If you hit something and the plow pivots down, won't the wings dig in?Might mess up a few driveways. They look well made though.
Reply:I usually tighten the springs up so it doesn't flop around while plowing. The only thing that may get hit in my experience over the years is a manhole cover that sticks up a touch more than than asphalt. It will trip for a second and hop right over it. The only time I see my blade trip is when I have a pile of snow in front of the plow and I'm pushing up into an existing pile.
Reply:I sell western snow plows and those wings look great. Except for the cutting edges on the wings. Loose the steel, put 1" thick rubber there. If you look at the western factory wings thats how they are made. You will be very surpized how much stuff you will now catch on with thoses wings. The rubber will fold back when you catch something on the wing or when the plow trips. The way you have the wings now will caused the blade not to trip, which usually results in, smashing head on steering wheel, bending plow A frame/mount, etc.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:Thank you for your coments, very much appreciated.Personally I would quit plowing if I could not run a rubber cutting edge. I run them the whole length, versus just on the edges. They last longer, you don't feel those manholes at all, no head into the steering wheel and no shock wear to the frame of your truck.I know, you can't scrape the ice as clean as with steel, tough crap. Reply:Oops, by the way, very nice work. I like all the bracing. I tend to try to make everything indestructible. Great job."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Thank you for your comments as well...There are a few guys here that run rubber edges full length as well, I've seen the plow on certain occasions, depending on temp and type of snow basically vibrate across a lot that is being plowed. Great idea though if your plowing a fancy drive such as stampcrete, or similar, no damage or scrapes.

Reply:I know that this post is a little old, but I like your design. Is that 1/4" steel? I would probably change it to rubber for mine because it trips alot where I plow. I just wasn't sure what thickness of steel that is. I'm trying to do this project as cheap and at the same time durable as I can. Thanks for your help. How have they been working out for you?
Reply:The face is 1/8 the bracing parts are 1/4 and the cutter is 3/8Thanks for looking
Reply:Very nice work , could have used it down here couple weeks ago , but you can keep all of it.
