I think it still has a small contamination. Welds SS just fine, colors are right, but AL still seems funny. But I have a different machine, and when the 5356 rod enters the gas ans start to get heated, it turns green like it's contaminated. Doesn't do it with any other rod, just that series. Different brand and sizes, doesn't matter. Just that series rod.Side note. After welding AC for a while I'll get build up on the tungsten, behind the tip, like s scale. This and the above point to a gas leak ?
Reply:What gas are you using?  Straight Argon or mix???? Seems funny that SS is fine because it is sensitive to contamination. I know that using helium with 5356 can produce soot but Ive never seen it turn green unless you are referring to the color you see through the lens.
Reply:that because it has magnesuim(spelling?) in it , it will produce a harder weld and is a bit harder to weld with but does great with a little practice. if your seeing the green glow u are watchin the puddle very good, job well done!!!!welding instuctor
