Does anyone know if it is possible to attach an LN 7 lincoln wire feeder to a miller bobcat 250? There is guy who wants an old feeder of mine and he wants to know if it will work. I believe I have seen somebody do this before. Any help would be great!
Reply:Is the LN7 a remote control feeder or a powered accross the arc (voltage sensing) feeder? If it is powered accross the arc, then sure, he can hook it up on the + or - weld lead and start welding. If it's remote control (has a multi-pin connector cord), then he's outta luck, unless he can get a weld controller to work with it.   The Miller weld controller that allows Miller remote feeders, such as the Spoolmatic spool guns, to be used on a Bobcat is the WC115A with contactor, but the feeder would have to run on 24vdc, cause that's what the WC115A puts out.   There is another controller that puts out 24vac, but I forget which one it is.  Whatever controller is used, it needs to have a contactor cause the Bobcat doesn't have a contactor inside at all.Your friend would probly be better off with an LN25 or a Suitcase VS or a Hobart Hefty that don't require remote control or a contactor.  Just hook up the weld lead and go.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:desertrider, the wire feeder is of the pin type. he doesnt want to put any money into a new feeder i dont think. ill recommend that to him though. would it work if he spliced the miller and lincoln wires together? thanks for the feedback btw.
Reply:FWIW - I can say that the LN-7 is normally powered by 120 volts ac supplied from the welding power source. Hope it helps with the feeder transplant decision. Good Luck
Reply:Running on 115vac, the feeder can plug into the Bobcat's aux power outlets, but there is still the issue of no remote contactor or remote connection wiring at all in the Bobcat...MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:hmmm youre talking about the remote for the gun..... this ln7 is set up for a tregaskiss tough gun. it look like all i need to do is get power to the feeder and it should work. i will get some pics of the parts and show u what im thinking. will be tomorrow though. thanks again!
Reply:What I'm saying is, usually the feeder doesn't have a contactor for turning on and off the weld power on a remote feeder.  The power source has the contactor.  If the LN7 doesn't have it's own internal contactor, then the gun will be hot all the time cause there's no way to turn the weld power on and off at the Bobcat.   The gun will turn the feed motor on and off though.   Steve (7A749) probly knows more about the LN7's guts than we do.  Hopefully he will chime in here and give his ideas on the subject.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Right, as far as I know there is no internal contactor option with an LN-7.However, "hot-wire" welding is workable, although a bit of a pain.I'm not so sure that the gun triggers the LN-7 internally to start the feed motor, that may be controlled via the power source's feeder circuit.Good Luck
Reply:according to lincoln"The LN-7 and LN-7 GMA are semiautomatic constant speed wire feeders that can beused with a variety of Lincoln engine drives, DC or CV power sources in a shop or fieldenvironment. Both models and a Ready-Pak™ package feature Lincoln's unique drive rolldesign, which provides positive feeding, quick reloading and durability for long life.Controlled wire feed speed during starting provides clean, positive starts and minimizesstubbing, skipping and spatter. For dependable operation and precise wire feeding in arugged package, choose the LN-7 or LN-7 GMA."

Reply:Originally Posted by Scott Youngthe rest of my post didn't quite make up.  anyways it will run off of lincon's 250 engine drives and up.  they have the 14 pin control connection.  i don't know about the miller, but if the lincoln's have it on their upper units, then miller should have i would think.
Reply:anymore thoughts on this one?
