Hi everyone,I'll be going by the local welding supply store this week to pickup some filler rod. I've been using 1/16" x 36 copper coated steel that came with the welder. Any suggestions for a decent rod that is not too expensive for general purpose use? I think I would like to get something larger, say 3/32" so I don't have to feed it so fast. What's a fair price for filler rods? Thanks,Walt
Reply:RG45? are you welding steel? there are lots of different filler rods for different materials, all are priced differently. although, typically, they are priced by the pound.are you tig welding or gas welding?
Reply:I'm Tig welding 1/16 to 1/4" mild steel. I find that the 1/16 rod has to be fed really fast - I can't keep up.I don't need top of the line pure quality, I just wanted to get something that is appropriate for my skill level, which is beginner.Thanks.
Reply:here is pretty good description of TIG and MIG filler metal types.A good general choice is ER70S-6http://www.esabna.com/EUWeb/AWTC/Lesson6_12.htm
Reply:3/32 ER70S-2 rod will work fine for what you're doing.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
